Board of Directors

John H Corcoran

Chairman & Managing Director

John was Director of the English Language Summer Courses at St Andrew's College, Bearsden, Glasgow, between 1988 and 2002. He was also Director of Commercial Services at the College over the same period. John has a vast knowledge of the Commercial field, as well as his role with the company he is also Chief Executive Officer with Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce consequently he relates well to people and recognises the importance that care of visitors means to parents and guardians sending young people to Scotland. John ensures that he is on campus every day and makes himself freely available to talk to students and leaders on any issue.

Simon McMillan

Director of Operations and General Manager.

Simon is a fully qualified teacher within the Scottish Education System and has been involved in the Summer Schools business since 1997 at both St Andrew's College, Bearsden and also with the company since it's inception. Simon is an extremely well liked member of the team particularly with the students from abroad, his forte is ensuring that everyone enjoys the "Scottish Experience" in every respect. Like the Chairman and Managing Director Simon ensures that he is on Campus every day and is available for students at all times

Lynn Watson

Director of Academic Studies

Lynn qualified 'Teacher of English as a Foreign Language' in 1990 and has taught English in Greece, Spain, Portugal and here in Scotland. Lynn is an extremely knowledgeable professional in the field of teaching and is currently Director of Studies at an English Language College in Huelva, Spain. She has held the role of Academic Course Director at St Andrew's College for several years and a similar post in Colegio do Vale in Lisbon. Very popular with Students, Teachers and Leaders alike, she has the ability to be friendly yet firm and ensures that students derive the very best benefit from the classes offered.

Marie McCarney

Director of Finance and Planning

Marie is an experienced teacher and lecturer in the Scottish Education system.
Her areas of expertise are the teaching of modern languages and she is qualified in French, Italian and German; this work has mainly been with young people within the College system. She has also worked successfully with European partners over many years. Marie works well with people and is very aware of the importance of a supportive and caring environment for the young people attending the summer school.

Jim Woods

Director of Studies

Jim was born and brought up in Ireland where he discovered the joys of nature and developed a passion for growing trees from seed. Jim has spent his working life between the voluntary/charity sector and education. He holds a B.A.(hons) an M.A. and a Pg.Dip.TEFL as well as a diploma in Botany. Jim is a Churchill Scholar having been awarded a fellowship in 1998 this enabled him to study the Indian educational system.
Jim has taught in schools and universities in various parts of Europe, South America, India, the Middle East and in the UK as teacher and DOS.
Jim is the St Andrew's College Summer Schools Director of Studies, using his considerable experience and knowledge of EFL teaching he organises, supports and manages the academic courses throughout the summer.

Emma Macleod

Liasion and Activities Manager

Emma is currently studying towards a BA in Community Arts. This course enables her to gain a wide knowledge in four art disciplines: visual arts, dance, drama and music.
Emma's particular area of passion and expertise lies within the area of visual arts. As an established artist her work is displayed in the city of Glasgow. Her creative ability includes photography and sculpture. Further to her skills within this field, she has strengths in dance and drama. She has spent time with Scottish Ballet where her dance ability was enhanced.
Emma currently creates and facilitates workshops in visual arts and drama to children and youths within education and in wider community settings. The visual arts workshops include: jewellery, fashion design and graffiti art. Further to this she also facilitates drama workshops including: role-play, games and characterisation. Her method of facilitation is interactive and fun. Her process is enriched by her client groups' imagination and creativity.
Emma is a key member of St Andrew's College Summer School Activity Staff and will be Coordinating and implementing a wide range and variety of afternoon and evening activities throughout the summer courses. 

Lynsey Monaghan

Liasion and Activities Manager

Lynsey is currently studying a BA Honours Degree in Community Arts. Her love for the arts has allowed her to gain experience and expertise in many art disciplines, broadening her creativity and ability to develop exciting workshops and activities. Working for Rangers FC's Education department has provided her with the opportunity to facilitate dance workshops to secondary school pupils in Glasgow. Lynsey is a qualified and experienced dance teacher. She has considerable experience facilitating drama and visual arts workshops and has developed her skills by providing support and guidance to a number of projects in and around Glasgow. Placements in Scottish Ballet, Reid Kerr College, Youth projects and Secondary Schools have given Lynsey diversity of experience to ensure the greatest enjoyment and well being of all students attending St Andrew's College Summer Schools English Language Courses.

Heather Young

Administration and Welfare Coordinator

Heather is currently studying a BA Honours Degree in Community Arts at the University of Strathclyde. In August 2010 she will undertake a PGDE couses in Art and Design Education. Working as an arts faciltator, Heather has attained a range of skills that enable her to focus on the welfare of the clients she works with. Supporting children, young people and adults with various abilities to participate actively in the arts has given her  a wealth of experience. With this experience she can offer students the comfort of having a individual on campus who is charge with ensuring their wellbeing and that every aspect of their visit is a very enjoyable experience. Heather's skills are within the field of the arts and her motivation, innovation, creativity and organisation make her a valaubale member of our team.

Galsgow Campus - UWS, Hamilton

Alison Fleming

Liasion and Activities Manager

Alison is currently studying a BA Honours Degree in Community Arts at Strathclyde University. The course offers practical training in art forms (Drama, Dance, Music and Visual Arts) and arts management.
She attended the Musical Theatre Course at the Dance School of Scotland. During this time she developed skills in a variety of dance styles including ballet, modern, tap, contemporary, jazz and streetdance. Alison took part in several dramatic performances and developed skills in improvisation, characterisation and role-play. Her music skills were developed through lessons in saxophone, solo singing and ensemble work.
Alison is currently working as a Visiting Artist in Dance. This involves devising and leading workshops and choreography for Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Special Education Need Schools.
Alison is a key member of the St Andrew's College Summer School Activity staff and will be co-ordinating a variety of creative arts, dance and aerobic workshops throughout the summer.

Lynn Logan

Liasion and Activities Manager

Lynn is currently studying a BA degree in Community Arts before beginning a postgraduate course in Primary Teaching later this year. Throughout her current course she has developed a wide range of skills mainly in the visual arts however; she has gained experience in youth education and arts management.
Lynn has a great love for all art forms, although her main interests lie within drama and visual art, from several work experiences and placements she has developed skills in characterization, improvisation, role-play and group work. From the visual art aspect she has developed a variety of skills and interest in graffiti writing and paint work.
At the moment Lynn is currently working voluntarily in a local primary school a teaching assistant and an arts practitioner, to enhance her skills and professional knowledge in order to pursue her life long ambition of becoming a primary teacher in the Scottish education system.
Lynn is a key member of St Andrew's College Summer School Activity Staff and will be Coordinating and implementing a wide range and variety of afternoon and evening activities throughout the summer courses.

Patricia McNulty

Amanda Kho

TEFL Teacher 

Amanda is currently studying a BA degree in Modern Languages at The University of the West of Scotland. She has spent the last year teaching English in Malaga, Spain. Her studies and her time abroad have allowed her to develop and enhance her communication and organisational skills. She adapts easily to various situations and interacts well with all students. Amanda is an extremely hard working and popular member of St Andrew's College Summer School staff.
Since the age of 2 she has had a passion for dancing and is now a fully qualified dance teacher in a variety of styles and is also a member of The British Association of Teachers of Dance. Teaching pupils from the age of 2 - 18 at Dancedreams Theatre School has enabled her to work easily in a team and has strengthened her organisational skills. Amanda offers aerobics and boxercise classes throughout the course. Fashion and beauty is another huge interest and she offers a nail art class which reflects her creative side.

Lisa Clerkson

Sports and Excursion Coordinator

Lisa graduated from the University of the West of Scotland in June 2009 with a BA degree in Social Science, where she specialised in Psychology and Sociology. Currently, she is undertaking a PDGE Primary teaching course at the University of Strathclyde. Lisa is enthusiastic, motivated, committed and professional who has a wealth of experience working with young people. She has successfully fulfiled a number of roles for St Andrew's College Summer Schools over the last 3 years. Lisa is a key member of our activity team who is very popular with all students due to her approchable, friendly manner  and her excellent organisational and motivation skills.

Laura Devine

Welfare and Administration Coordinator

Laura is currently studying a BSC Honours degree in Psychology at Caledonian University which she transfered to after completing 2 years of a nursing degree. Before commencing her BSc, Laura completed a HNC in Administartion and Information Technology. She also works as a relief worker at a respite unit for children with special needs. In her spare time she enjoys dancing and attends ballet and jazz classes at a musical theatre academy. Laura volunteers as a befriender once a week where she arranges and accompanies young people, who require some extra support, on social outings . Laura has also recently completed a 100 hour TEFL course and hopes to gain some experience planning, preparing and teaching at St Andrew's College this summer.
