Stirling - New for 2011

Stirling University

The University campus is located within 310 acres of countryside at the foot of the Ochil Hills and encompasses a loch, golf course and the 18th century Airthrey Castle. During semester, the University has over 11500 students, with over 80 nationalities represented on the campus.

Classrooms

We have a wide range of lecture theatres and classrooms available on the campus. All lecture theatres have fixed seating, can seat from 80-240 people and have full AV equipment including screen, data projector, PC, visualiser and DVD/video playback. These can be used for film screenings, talent shows etc.

Our classrooms are a mixture of standard and premium rooms and have a capacity for 15 students. The premium rooms are equipped with the same AV facilities as the lecture theatres, whilst the standard rooms have a whiteboard and OHP.

Accommodation

Our accommodation comprises of either single rooms within our halls of residence (both ensuite and standard) or single rooms within a self-catering flat.

The rooms in the halls are a basic single bedroom with either shared shower/toilet or ensuite facilities. There are no cooking facilities within the hall during the summer months. The halls of residence also have social space available to anyone staying in them. This comprises of a games room (pool table, table tennis) and a TV room. These spaces can also be used for quiz nights and other group activities.

There are also a number of self-catering properties available on the campus.

Catering

The University campus offers a wide range of catering outlets offering menu's to suit all tastes. Our two dining rooms (Haldane's and Pathfoot Dining Room) provide self-service meals offering a wide variety of foods including vegetarian options. Other special dietary requirements can be catered for if we are advised beforehand.

Other catering outlets include:

  • Stir Café - breakfast menu, speciality coffees, sandwiches, salads and cakes.
  • Atrium Sandwich Shop - range of sandwiches and homemade soup.
  • Atrium Fast Food - customers can take their pick from burgers, pizzas and baked potatoes.

Opening times of these outlets vary from week to week and are displayed in our properties during the summer months.

Sports Facilities

The University has a superb collection of sports facilities on the campus offering a wide range of activities:

  • Sports Hall - this is the size of 8 x badminton courts or 2 x basketball courts and can be divided into 2 or 4 activity areas.
  • Swimming Pool - Six lane, 50 metre swimming pool which can be split into two 25 metre pools by a moveable boom. Lanes of the pool can be pre-booked for group activity.
  • Tennis Courts - This forms part of the National Tennis Centre which was opened by tennis ace Andy Murray. There are six indoor courts, two outdoor all weather courts and two outdoor clay courts.
  • Grass Pitches - There are 5 football pitches, 1 rugby pitch and 1 multi-purpose pitch.
  • Athletics Track - 400m, six lane track with an eight lane straight.
  • Golf Facilities - Airthrey Golf Course is a 9-hole, par-3 course situated by Airthrey Castle. There is also a putting green available.

Shops on Campus

The shopping precinct in the University provides the day to day essentials you may require whilst on vacation. The following shops are available:

  • Bank of Scotland (with ATM)
  • Pharmacy
  • Newsagent
  • Supermarket
  • Bookshop
  • SUSA Shop - stocks a wide range of gift items bearing the 'University' brand. Also stocks stationery, gifts and cards.

Care and Welfare

The aim of our staff, at all times, is to ensure that our visitors enjoy every aspect of Scotland from the moment we meet you at the airport until we wave goodbye as you return home. The safety and security of our visitors is of critical importance and please rest assured that the safety and happiness of our students is our priority during their stay with us in Scotland.

Every member of staff is on hand to ensure that you are happy in your studies and in your everyday life at St Andrew's College Summer Schools.

We are  ready to offer advice - and we are easy to talk to. If you have any concerns we are always there to help.

We have 2 dedicated Welfare coordinators on each campus 24 hours a day to help you with any matters.
