Located at the University of Essex, our Colchester Campus is a lively, modern place surrounded by beautiful parkland. It is in the historic town of Colchester, about two hours northeast of London, and has a calm atmosphere with easy access to the city. With a friendly, ‘small village’ feel, the campus gives students plenty of space to explore and enjoy.

The campus offers the South Courts student accommodation, along with a variety of shops, cozy cafés, well-equipped classrooms and sport facilities. Students can enjoy multiple canteens, each with its own unique menu and delicious food options.

The Campus

Located at the University of Essex, our Colchester Campus is set in 200 acres of beautiful parkland, just 2 miles from the first major city in Roman Britain and its first capital – Colchester. With its ‘small village’ atmosphere, the campus offers plenty of space for students to explore and enjoy.

The campus offers the South Courts student accommodation, along with a variety of shops, cozy cafés, and well-equipped classrooms. Students can enjoy multiple canteens, each with its own unique menu and delicious food options. Plus, the campus has fantastic sports facilities, both indoor and outdoor, perfect for anyone looking to stay active and have fun!

Colchester, the oldest recorded town in England, is rich in history and culture. Thousands of visitors come to Colchester each year to explore its famous Roman ruins, historic castle, and vibrant arts scene. From its beautiful parks to its bustling shopping districts, Colchester offers something for everyone.

Around and about

The nearest village to campus is Wivenhoe, which offers a variety of shops and cafés. A large convenience store is located about a 30-minute walk from the campus for any essentials. Colchester itself is a historic town with plenty to explore, including its beautiful parks and the famous Roman walls that date back nearly 2,000 years.

Travel and Transport

Regular buses go from the campus to Colchester city centre and two train stations (Hythe and Colchester Town). Colchester is just two hours from London by car.

All trips on the student excursion programme will be by private coach.

Accommodation

The Accommodation

Colchester South Courts accommodation is just a five-minute walk from the main campus areas. Students will stay in flats (4-6 students per flat) with comfortable single en-suite bedrooms and free Wi-Fi. While there’s no access to kitchens or shared common areas, the rooms are designed for comfort and convenience.

Safety is our top priority! Colchester offers 24-hour security, CCTV, and secure access entry systems, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all students.
