This support will include assisting the DoS and Senior Teacher in the testing, timetabling and academic welfare of students, supporting other teachers and helping with administrative tasks such as record-keeping, communicating key information to students and staff, and syllabus and materials development.
Teacher with Additional Duties’ hours are spread over a 35* hour, working week. Student contact hours will normally be 15 hours per week. Administration e.g. meetings, updating records of work, etc. and lesson preparation time, is included within the 35 hours contract week. *The number of teaching hours may vary according to the needs of the campus, you may occasionally be asked to work a Saturday or Sunday.
This can be a residential or non-residential position depending on the campus and only with prior agreement from the Senior Management Team.
On the application form, you will be required to declare any criminal convictions and your eligibility to work in the UK.
To work with St Andrew's College Language Schools, you must provide a Disclosure (PVG to work in Scotland/DBS to work in England) and this must be dated within the 3 months prior to your Contract Start Date. If you have been working abroad for more than 3 years, you must provide the equivalent 'police check' from that country.Whichever one you choose to supply, it must be ‘Enhanced’ and specific to your suitability to work with under 18s.
You must also provide an email address and contact telephone number of 3 referees who can verify your suitability for the post and suitability to work with those aged -18. One of which can be a character reference.
Please bear in mind that the procedure to receiving a Disclosure check can take up to 18 weeks. In the event your disclosure is still pending at the commencement of your employment, you must agree to comply with St Andrew’s College Language Schools, Safeguarding and Recruitment policy.
All new Disclosure checks made through St Andrew’s College Language Schools are payable by the employee and will be deducted from your salary. This may range from £18 to £65 depending on the Disclosure you need.
Assist the DoS and Senior Teacher in keeping a record of all Welfare, Safeguarding and Health and Safety problems, solutions and outcomes per guidelines.
Be familiar with British Council and English UK guidelines (documents available on campus, online and pre-contract) and ensure academic management achieves and maintains the standards set out in these guidelines. Co-operate with any British Council Inspection procedures.
Ensure that a high standard of teaching is maintained. Work with the DoS, Senior Teacher and teaching department, guiding teachers to the best source of support in planning, preparing and teaching English language lessons that are relevant and appropriate to the students learning needs, interests and culture, whilst following the St Andrew’s College Language Schools’, summer school educational programme.
Be responsible for the resources provided to you and return them at the end of your teaching contract.
Assist the DoS and Senior Teacher by being proactive, offering administrative support to teachers before it is requested.
Assist the DoS and Senior Teacher in the running of the Student Placement Test as directed.
Assist the DoS and Senior Teacher in the creation of Class Lists and Class Registers of no more than 15 students from the results of the Placement Test, taking into consideration level of English, multi-national mix, age and continuity.
Assist the DoS and Senior Teacher in organising the Teaching Timetables smartly with a sustainable cover programme in place.
Assist the DoS and Senior Teacher with the organisation, advertising and running of the Students Certificate/Graduation ceremony as directed.
Present accurate and up to date ‘Teaching and Learning signage/information’ for students, clients and staff in the designated areas on Campus: timetables, classrooms, class lists, certificate ceremonies, focus groups etc.
Assist the DoS and Senior Teacher by organising and minuting staff meetings and optional sessions corresponding to the needs of the teachers.
Assist the DoS and Senior Teacher in organising ‘Group Leader’ sessions.
Represent St Andrew’s College Language Schools positively in all conversations with clients, staff, and the host centre.
Assist the DoS and Senior Teacher in the running of a manageable teacher room/office environment from which to work from.
At the end of contract/summer school term, assist the DoS and Senior Teacher with packing and returning all stock and equipment per guidelines.
The activity programme is as important as the academic programme, and students have the right to expect an equally high standard of delivery for both aspects.

Provide regular updates for the Company Director of Studies or ‘other named person’ in an agreed format.
In 2019, St Andrew's College Language Schools will have appx 11 campuses running simultaneously. With this in mind, we have developed an online Teaching and Learning ‘Shared Drive’, where resources, timetables, attendance etc. can all be kept and updated in real time. It is part of your job description to use ‘the shared drive’ both as a support tool and as an administrative duty.
St Andrew's College Language Schools’ Teachers are provided with teaching support, including a syllabus with course book (to be used as a course structure), and a Teachers’ Handbook which outlines our Teaching and Learning guidelines code of practice and conduct. In addition, a range of supplementary resources and a variety of teaching materials are provided online on the shared drive.
All staff receive electronic Teaching and Learning guidelines prior to employment. The company handbook and policies will also be available on the shared drive and on your campus.
Teachers are required to attend a face to face induction covering Teaching and Learning expectations, Child Protection and Safeguarding and company Health and Safety guidelines. On the rare occasion when a teacher cannot attend the face to face induction your on-campus Academic Management team will have the responsibility to provide you with all information that you need.
The induction will be very close to your start date and paid at the rate of £8.50 per hour.
